Painful memories made beautiful……

I just had a video conference with a high school class in Colorado. At the end of the call, they made a “dedication” performance to me: they sang “Chain of Fools.” For those of you who read my book, you know that this was me and my mom’s favorite song. The 11-year old Cupcake sang it as she cradled her mom’s lifeless body in her lap. When the kids sang it to me today I cried, but they were tears of joy — joy because they took the time to learn ALL of the words to a song that came out YEARS before they were born. And, because they took the time to sing the entire song to me. And they sounded beautiful. (Aretha would be proud.) Thanks kids (due to some of them being minors I can’t name them. But they know who they are!) Only God can take a painful memory and turn in into laughter, kindness, joy, smiles….and love.
